iPadOS 14 and PacketCalc
Hi!
I’m happy (relieved?) to report that PacketCalc runs on iPadOS 14 beta with no recompilation! There’s one not-so-good thing and one very nice thing to share:
Not-so-good thing: Sliders do not update their related values in real time. There’s a significant lag. I assume this is due to Apple adding a bunch of debugging/logging/etc and this will fix itself.
Very nice thing: The ScrollViews maintain their positions when switching between the Headers, Sizes, Speeds, tabs. These used to scroll back to the top which was more than annoying. And, no work was required on my part! Life is good :-)
I’m very excited to see what Apple is bringing to SwiftUI over the next several days and will update this blog with thoughts about what might see its way into PacketCalc in iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 (and MacOS 11).
I’m pretty sure the new App SideBar is going to be near the top of my TODO list! I’m also hoping to see some improvement in the area of keyboard interaction. I’ve been waiting for WWDC 2020 to see if Apple adds better (read easier to implement) Keyboard support before adding this to PacketCalc. Fingers crossed!
